A scientist moving to a country isn't usually expected to learn the local language, the vast majority of laboratories speak English.

It's easy to pin this all on a foreign enemy, but this "theory" is completely invalidated by noticing that Trump receives support from all the most powerful person of the country: Musk, Zuckerberg, Thiel, Ellison, Bezos... America doesn't need foreign adversaries to destroy itself.

Two of the big names in your list there are not even americans.

They are, by any relevant metric...

How many of these people have talked to Putin or other similarly-skilled Russian intelligence agents that convinced them that Russian style oligarchy would give them more power than liberal democracy?

I would guess most if not all. Bezos is the only one who I imagine might not have had detailed discussions. Musk was completely in the grasp of Putin, though that seems to have changed in the past month with the sudden change of heart and disablement of Russian military starlink inside Ukraine. Apparently it was implemented in a single day, and SpaceX staff was confused by the sudden change in heart. That is still consistent with Putin playing Musk like a puppet earlier when they had direct conversations.

I think there are a confluence of reasons for this behavior, and I while I think that foreign influence can't explain it all, it would explain a huge chunk.

It's always fascinating people who don't know how things work openly spouting evidence of their ignorance.

Feel free to offer how you think things work, and why, if you can.

I believe WebMCP will fail for the same reason as the semantic web and public APIs did: no one wants to put in the effort to make their website readable by machines, as that only benefits the competition and is immediately exploited by bad actors.

I think the DB itself is open-source, and you can self-host if you want. Biggest risk is if the company goes under and stops maintaining it.

It's a BUSL license - you can self host so long as your application uses at most a single SpacetimeDB instance (i.e. no replication) and isn't a database service... or you are running a 5+ year old version of the server (and since this DB hasn't existed for 5+ years...).

Damn, I missed that. That's a shame.

The company that is building SpacetimeDB is also making a voxel MMO with it, so it looks like it works well enough. But I am still a bit skeptical at how scalable this is.

I took a look into it and it looks like a really cool MMO but it doesn't look voxel-based: https://bitcraftonline.com

My bad, but it supports persistent changes to a shared game world.

So what's your position on trans people? Persecute them, or let them be? Persecute half of them perhaps?

Don’t persecute them at all. Live and let live. In my opinion though I believe it is a form of mental illness. It’s not based on genetic or hormonal anomalies so it’s purely a condition of the mind. Still it’s none of my business.

Don't make the mistake of idealizing the past. It took a decade of terrible winters and famine for the head of a single French king to be parted from his body. And it took one century more for a lasting Republic to be born.

American "activists" (didn't know being anti-genocide was a fringe belief but here we are) clearly won the narrative. Most Americans now oppose what Israel is doing in Gaza and want all support to this country to stop ASAP. This support for Israel cost Harris the election, as shown in their latest post-mortem of the 2024 election, and is making Trump and his administration ever more unpopular.

You're making the mistake of correlating these proxy wars with any later improvements in these countries' living conditions. War is always detrimental to quality of life.

> You're making the mistake of correlating these proxy wars with any later improvements in these countries' living conditions

...nobody argued the proxy wars were good for those countries. Just that if you're turned into a random local in one of those theatres, chances are you're better off a decade or two later than if you're turned into a random North Korean.

I mean, nothing unhinged here, nukes are only ever useful if other countries believe you will use them when attacked. Same thing for North Korea as the US, France, etc. (Well, nuclear war is unhinged, but...).
