Many of them end up going back to the not-so-simple life in a few years so I'm hesitant to read too much into an early account like this.

I think Walden is the most snobby book I've read in my life. Everything he had, he got from the people he looked down on in the hardworking area round about that he 'escaped' from.


Thoreau abandoned his cabin after 2 years.


He spent more time editing his manuscript than he did actually living in his cabin.
