Very good points, but the article a little bit and the comments here in particular remind me of one of my favorite tweets:

That's a blatantly false dichotomy.

Often the people doing the arguing are also the most productive: witness Don Stewart. Quantitative finance is more demanding than some PHP-laden startup, and yet he still manages to write a bunch of libraries and surprisingly performant code.

That tweet doesn't really come off as much of a joke. More like very thinly veiled criticism.
