Stop Using Brave Browser (spacebar.news)

If you want people to stop using a thing, make a better thing. These moralistic and political arguments only make you look and sound weak.

You know what sounds weak? “Don’t eat at chicken fila because of politics blah blah blah” But you know what wins customers? Popeyes _MF_!

Values are an integral part of tech design. I think that a lot of people don't use Chrome because of Google's tracking and profiling ecosystem, even though they feel it is a good browser. I prefer to use an open-source product, even if it may not be the best, just because I support open source as an idea. That is not weak.

people don’t use chrome because ads are annoying and because google ads on the front page led them into scam sites. Or because chrome is inefficient. That’s the only reason anyone seems to use brave or safari anyways.

Eich being forced out due to a personal donation was shameful, actually

Why so?

He's a public persona and was initially picked for a high-visibility position at Mozilla. While he's free to donate to whoever (or more generally, do) as he sees fit, the org is equally free to not want to be associated with that.

In the case of positions that aren't in the public eye, there's more of an argument to be made (although even there, there are lines where you can argue that a contributor doesn't align with the values of the organization depending on what the disagreements are), but if he's meant to represent the group, the expectation of privacy is different.

Fortunately people have gotten more immune to that kind of tactic nowadays.

This article is idiotic. Here is a strong assertion backed by some flimsy personal preferences. Ooh targeted ads bad crypto bad, man bad.

Sure but let’s consider proportionality (these things really aren’t dealbreakers) and alternatives (there aren’t good alternatives)
