| | Ask HN: The history of CS / software engineering, how to learn it? | | 1 point by ryanmolden on Aug 21, 2012 | hide | past | favorite | | So, I have read a number of threads lately where people bemoan the general lack of historical knowledge of CS and software engineering (yes, I know this are somewhat non-overlapping magisteria). As someone that is woefully ignorant of said past how should I remedy this deficiency? Specifically what books/papers are seminal works or at least broad overviews of the space? I am not necessarily asking for the N research papers that any "real" hacker should read, but rather for the kind of historical perspective that is apparently so lacking with kids now days. |
