Anyone doing precise timestamping uses TAI.

Converting to UTC is easy when you need it.

Meta's suggestion just shows how narrow-minded they are.

"very evidently"? Where is this evidence that I haven't thought it through that you speak of?

As I hinted, I'm sufficiently experienced with precise timestamping to know that TAI is the proper way there, and that "improving" UTC is not going to help. Their suggestion is that UTC should essentially be the same as TAI because there is code that makes incorrect assumptions about what UTC is. If you need a monotonic clock, there is already something for that. UTC is for the actual local time on Earth.
