I eventually built mlvwm but it segfaults (in Xephyr on Ubuntu). I didn't get xap to build; after installing all the dependencies I get "/usr/bin/ld: final link failed: bad value" and I have no idea what that means. I might try mlvwm on FreeBSD next, since its home page implies that it was mostly tested there originally.

You can always ask the author for help :)

On the software crashes, please, use the forked ones from github, they are fixed and patched to work on modern systems.
