Which is actually correct, don't know why u get downvoted. Hinton and Bengio are all affiliated with Canadian institutions when deep learning takes off. And it is AlexNet that really gives DL its very first big momentum.
Even now, I would say U of Toronto and U of Montreal are still the best universities for DL across the North America.
Not to mention the many people who have written some influential papers or are doing research in Silicon Valley have come through U of T or U of M, often having done research under Hinton and Bengio.
