It's also called LTE-U. There was a lot debate around this in the recent IEEE conference. I mean yelling at each other kind of debate!

One side was (is) AT&T and Vrizon and other side was Google and other members

IEEE develops the WiFi standards, while LTE is standardized at 3GPP/ETSI/ITU. There tends to be some rivalry, and doing similar things in two different ways.
