I found Squad and Planetside 2 to be great heirs to the Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142 legacy.

Amazing how Planetside 2 being a free game manages to outclass pretty much any combined arms FPS and is still looking really good visually for 2012 release.

Oh man I forgot about Planetside 2! Super underrated, it came out in a huge FPS glut in the market. I dig huge combined arms stuff but man I used to die to snipers in that game so much haha.

It's unfortunate this thing is so long on HN front page

I like this dramatic videos from Russian Vyborg castle, I wonder if they still organize these:

So morning star would be the weapon of choice there I suppose. Sword may win "by points" but with morning star you'd have a solid chance of actually neutralizing opponent.

Historically, the weapon of choice for defeating plate armour was the pollaxe.

Flanged mace should be pretty decent too: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mace_(weapon)#European_Middle_...

"When we launched Google+, we set out to help people discover, share and connect across Google like they do in real life. "

Why can't they for once be honest and say something like: "We wanted to get on the social network train, it did not work out".

Just without these corporate lies about "connecting people"

That's not how PR speak works :) And to be fair, Google+ does have a few million users doing their thing there, it won't be displacing Facebook anytime soon but it's not entirely dead weight for them, so whether it worked out or not is relative.

and what a liability those few million are now because they can't get rid of this thing without giving them a way out

Does "social network" mean anything more than the other buzzwords you derided?

Thank you, that actually may be one of the reasons.

But I met the milestone! With sweat and blood, many good people died as we were reaching that stone.

Thank you! This part about "round closing NOW" always puzzled me. I understand there is a tradition to set deadlines like that - "raising NNN by YY", but what if the deadline comes and I don't have 100% of my round in? I set a new deadline?

You reassess the business and dust off your exit strategy.

If the investors already know what your runway looks like and they haven't given you a term sheet, they aren't going to be investing.
