I'd argue that employment data is so manipulated it's basically useless at this point.
I'd say 4/6 people I know working in tech (devs, pm's etc) are unemployed at the moment. Those looking for work are getting maybe one interview per 30 applications. These are people with FAANG credentials and over 8yrs of experience.
And that's in tech, can't imagine how things are going in other industries.
But it entirely depends on where you're looking for work. If you're looking for a FAANG-style company, then yes, times are hard.
But that's a small segment of the industry. In most of the rest of the industry, jobs are as plentiful as ever -- but lots of programmers, mostly the younger ones, don't even consider anything that doesn't look like FAANG.
Although I never had symptomatic covid, I'm relatively sure I've suffered some mild mental decline.
Before covid I had mild adhd and in a form that was diagnosed as auditory in nature, which means sometimes I hear words different than I say them.
I never remember having any kind of speech impediment as a kid, however nowadays I'll sometimes slur words or seemingly mess up my speech without realizing. It's been okay, but I'm considering some kind of speech therapy now.
Idk, I've had a great career for 4yrs - getting laid off in January has been a death sentence. I've found some startup consulting work but the industry is either pretty shot or my resume is a death knell.
I (hope?) it's the market. Moving from the US to Europe so leaving my job (which I enjoy) and so far have had zero responses to my applications both where I'm moving to and remote. Normally I get around 50% interviews and from those around 50% offers. I've applied for 30+ jobs and had zero response.
That sounds like an excellent suggestion. Would you mind sending an email to doruk@oblivus.com with a brief description of the video and details about your channel?
