hi, i'm gordon. and yeah, unfortunately i might be the only person who understands the entirety of the core library. yeah, that's scary. but i wouldn't bet any storj tokens on it because the payoff wouldn't be so great.

i'm not listed on the team anymore, because i - along with several others left the project during and after the token sale (empty handed, mind you) for various reasons.

i agree, storj didn't need $30mm (but did need more than $30k though, to be fair).

> You can only assume these people are more about $$$ than what they are building.

a reasonable assumption, but let's draw the line between those building and those profiting, because this assumption is not fair (or accurate) in describing the people who actually did the building.

Thanks for the response Gordon. Sorry to paint you with that brush. You've got my respect, if it means anything, probably took a lot of talent and effort to build. Good luck and keep fighting the good fight.

That sucks man. Have they begged you to come back yet?

As has been mentioned elsewhere, why would they beg when they have FU money and can buy Lambos.

They can honestly say that Storj lead developer left of personal reasons and no one else can take over.

There is no obligation on their part to pay anything back.

Like the author I have been following crypto currencies (and doing small time mining) since 2011. I have seen several boom-crash cycles.

Still I boggle at the madness of the crowds.

Hi Gordon, sorry if this is too far off topic, but what software did you use to make your awesome github profile photo?

You could use http://www.ascii-art-generator.org . Select "Image to Color Ascii Art". It is also using libcaca.

thanks david, if i could rewrite git history for the sole purpose of not being associated with it anymore, i think i would. i think a few of us would.

Also I should clarify on the sale of the tokens. This was SJCX, it wasn't a premine, but that token had been trading for years and I held mine for well over a year. I never held any of the tokens that were part of the recent sale.

Believe me, I understand how this looks. To answer your questions:

- Yes, early storj employees were given tokens on a schedule related to achieving certain milestones

- Yes, when I felt it was appropriate for my own future, I sold those tokens

- Yes, not long after I sold, I (and others) left

- No, my intent was not to slander, but simply to explain why I have disappeared from the community and why core development has slowed

- Yes I forked a free software project and our hackerspace is providing what's called a "comprehensive sponsorship" which in no way risks 501c3 status

My goal has always been to create a great project and never to harm Storj Labs. Though, admittedly, given the circumstances I understand how it might appear that way. Because of that, can we not turn this thread into what happened on Reddit?

It's not required to run in docker, just there for ease of setup. Check out https://orcproject.github.io/orc/tutorial-install.html

Nice. Seems there is a error tho:

    npm install -g @orcproject/orc
only works as:

    npm install -g orcproject/orc

Oo! Sorry hasn't been published to npm yet, still prepping for beta. Try `npm install orcproject/orc` to get the latest from master branch on github.

Aanndd just saw you did that already.

You're right, I hid the language in the hamburger menu, trying to make the mobile experience less "wall of text". We should think of some ways to bring it out.
