This guy's following a bunch of Instagram thots and now he's complaining all he sees are Instagram thots...

I mean, aside from the fact that you don't like it, why is that "ridiculous"? It's their platform, can they not do what they want?

Well it is their platform, but they are using what I would consider unethical means to force people to create accounts, collecting and selling their data.

Sure, you can say that I should avoid Mark's websites altogether if I want to keep my data safe, but that would probably mean that a huge portion of my social life would be sacrificed.

> Why is that person employed? This was during the best market in the history of mankind and I was questioning that, and now everyone with a talent more relevant than customer "retention" should be just as annoyed, given how coveted a continual flow of oxygen is now

This right here, ladies and gentlemen, is peak software developer entitlement.

I have no doubt many in the industry will experience a serious reality check, as companies start cutting back and looking at the value proposition of each developer.

The HN crowd likes to freak out whenever data is being collected...

I mean, the docs literally spell this out, so I'm not sure how much you or the author of the article wants their hand held:

> To best leverage Stripe’s advanced fraud functionality, include this script on every page, not just the checkout page. This allows Stripe to detect anomalous behavior that may be indicative of fraud as customers browse your website.

Okay great. It's obvious that (MANY) people derive value from these beyond just playing sound in your ears, but it's good to hear that you're happy with your earphones as well.

"there is no alternative at all"

If you don't want to use Google Pay, can you not just carry a credit card?

In one sentence you show that you are aware of the piece's satire, and in the next you question whether the author truly believes everything he says?

I think it's pretty obvious that the article was not meant to be taken completely seriously and is poking humour at some "familiar" experiences.
