Man didn't say capitalist system. If anything, he's rebelling against what looks more like a centrally-planned economy than capitalism.

It's deliberate sabotage by an anti-growth movement.

Agreed. These people seem to be panicking that our precious society is suffering because of choices people are making for themselves when that’s just what society is. If they benefit from talking to more people, go ahead and enjoy the benefits. They aren’t owed anything.

I’ll talk to strangers when it makes me feel good. But most of the time I try avoid inviting weirdos to complain about minorities or marginalized people from someone who has driven away anyone close to them.

I would suggest that it's your avoidance of talking to strangers that makes you think this is how a lot of them think. And it kind of proves the point that society can suffer because of it. If you went out tomorrow and talked to 100 random strangers for 10mins I'd be surprised if any of them complained about minorities.

That is statistically unlikely. Almost everyone has a "racist uncle" type story and that's what, out of 10 people in your family tops?

Chances are at least 20 of them would.

>> Almost everyone has a "racist uncle" type story

IRL I've never met one real person that has a 'racist uncle'.

Most of the racist uncles don't use that as first subject with complete strangers, that's more of a family thing.

I said in my post that I DO talk to strangers. It makes me feel good when that’s what I want. It’s also true that most of y’all are sus AF.

I find your negative view of humanity saddening. I think most people are basically good.

That is my experience as well -- most people are basically good.

But my personal experience has also been that the sort of people who ignore social cues and try and chat someone up who is wearing headphones while riding public transit or working out are generally less good.

I think there is some truth to that, especially on public transit.

check out some vox populi, you would be surprised

I hope you don't complain when people use social media or have LLM as their daddy to cope then :)

Yes that’s my definition of freedom.

I agree. And the funny thing is the most enjoyable part of LLMs is it's nice to chat with someone smart.

They took him down, good work gents!

They had to replace the iPhone SE with a much more expensive iPhone 16e because of tariffs so I don’t think iPhones will get any cheaper.

That would be a huge deal. I’m wondering how current android is being received because as far as the reporting goes it has already delivered LLM voice assistant with personal context. But I haven’t seen any reporting about the consumer market reaction. Android phones already sell better so are thry just miles ahead now?

Avie Tevanian told the parable of not needing to outrun the bear if you can outrun your friend. These companies aren’t competing to be perfect, they’re competing for our money.

If Apple had to be the best at AI, it would be out of business already. But it just has to make things people want and the customers will use them to run local or remote LLMs.

This seems to be key. People must want Windows or Linux so badly they will pay 25-30% for a thinkpad with a track pad that is almost as good. Don't these manufacturers sell more machines than Apple and could benefit from better economies of scale. Maybe the scale is just at the low end and the iPhone subsidizes premium Mac hardware.

I have yet to read about someone who priced out something "as good" as the MacBook Air in terms of component quality and efficiency. What would the price premium be... over 50%?

Either way it costs money to avoid macOS at the higher end but not much when you’re spending thousands of US dollars.

> People must want Windows or Linux so badly they will pay 25-30% for a thinkpad

Yup, I got Thinkpad X9, the idea being "Air 15 but with Windows". It does the job. I still think Air 15 is better (and cheaper), but the software compatibility and not needing to switch platforms outweighs that.

I love my 15 Air (M2). I’m curious how the Air 15 is better in a way that may or may not be available as an upgrade in the X9 or some other option.

Better SoC, no spinning fans. Also the screen won't die after 2 years of light mode usage.

The remaining stuff... I'd say Lenovo has caught up for the most part.

In the US, most specialists are booked out 6 months. It seems impossible to find a mental health care provider that accepts insurance and is taking new patients. You can get prescribed mental health drugs from your primary care physician.

That's just my experience and I have health insurance provided by one the world's richest employers, I pay 4,318.86/yr in premiums for our family with a multi-thousand-dollar deductible.

Maybe if I was a very rich person in a poorer area that still happens to have a hospital, I'd have an easier time scheduling healthcare but I'd have to make that choice over moving abroad.
