Neither is nature, this sounds like an environmental disaster waiting to happen

considering plants grow just fine with grow lights, they don't really care. same with co2, they LOVE CO2

Nature is more than just plants.

> they LOVE CO2

Plants can absorb some more CO2 and it improves their growth slightly but saying they LOVE CO2 is an exaggeration.

They turn it into sugar, what's not to love?

Solar panels aren't nature. Shining lights on solar panels is not going to be an environmental disaster.

Even the guide dogs are getting laid off?? That's the most depressing AI victim news yet.

I've been accosted outside enough shops to buy underage smokers a pack of cigs to know how well this will work.

This lack of social consensus is the problem here. A national referendum would be better, as it provides a way to force people to consider the changes and decide.

great idea, let's people without skin in the game to vote for whose who have.

let us people?

I rebuilt my PII system last year and really wanted to run SAH on it for old time's sake but sadly that hasn't been possible for a long time. I miss watching that old screensaver and optimising the system performance so I could get through a WU in less time, iirc at the time it took about 18 hours each.

Sounds like using Instagram posts to determine what someone really looks like

I recently picked up a Threadripper 3960x, 256GB DDR4 and RTX2080ti 11GB running Debian 13 and open web-ui w/ ollama.

It runs well, not much difference to Claude etc but still learning the ropes and how to get the best out of it and local llms in general. Having tonnes of memory is nice for switching out models in ollama quickly since everything stays in cache.

The GPU memory is the weak point though so I'm mostly using models up to 18b parameters that can fit in the vram.

As is the gopher service, which is a shame.

Up and running. Seems that the Gophernicus didn't appreciate the ten thousand awks reserving all the available memory..

If you have any ideas of the content I should push there, let me know.

if the UK had a written constitution, the right to drink tea would be damn near the top of it.

As a neurodiverse British person I tend to communicate more directly than the average English speaker and I find LLM's manner of speech very off-putting and insincere, which in some cases it literally is. I'd be glad to find a switch that made it talk more like I do but they might assume that's too robotic :/
