I think this comes from boats used for free time. They cost a lot and you spend relativly little time on it.

Now if you live on the boat you are using it which would make it more economical however I'm sure the upkeep and fuel costs more than a house would.

From my talks with boatowners / boatlivers on the river Cam in Cambridge, UK, the upkeep and fuel ain't too bad.

Make sure you're marching is very peaceful. Don't want the government to label you a 'terrorist'. You may never seen sunlight again.

I'm young, foolish, and I honestly don't care if I'm labeled a terrorist.

Although, my ethnicity doesn't particularly help my cause...

Interesting sentiment, and I can't help but think this is why the government seems to fear the youth the most/ships them off to wars in other countries.

Was there a time when wars were only fought by old men?

The ones that lasted a long time.

The question is not the age of the people fighting wars, but what a government chooses to "use" its youth population for.

I agree we need to test but I think the problem is what we do with the test scores. It should be a natural goal for a school to raise it's test scores as time goes on. Learning the correct way to do things and improve. The main issue I see is how funding is provided to schools based on the scores. It makes everyone focus solely on the scores because each administer is trying to get money to run the school which is based on how they test. Provides the wrong kind of message. We should be passively looking at these scores and sending additional support to schools that are low not basing how much money the school gets based on them.

"It should be a natural goal for a school to raise it's test scores as time goes on."

With many of these tests, especially good schools are hitting the ceiling of how well it's possible to do. If you're scoring a 99% every year, how do you improve?

It will be interesting to see when the banks have the same fallout we had in 1929. How much wealth actually exists?

This article makes a good point about how we can't know. Too many shady things are happening and no regulation to figure it out.

Its nice to see successful tech companies actually fighting some patents. It makes me sad to see Apple Microsoft IBM etc just pay patent trolls because it is cheaper to do so than defeating the patents.

It's not only that it might be cheaper, it's because it takes out the uncertainty that would be involved in trying to defeat a patent. You have no idea how long the fight will take to wind it's way through the courts or even if you'll ultimately get a ruling in your favor.

Which is why the legal system is an utter failure.

Patent trolls play the probability game which usually results in a net gain because the legal system is failing.

I would say that there should be laws against this but that will result in another loophole or way of making money.

Perhaps I'm a socialist wierdo, but I'd favour scrapping the entire patent process for something which rewards positive contributions to society as a whole rather than who can screw who first. People should be creating things that improve the human condition, not enslave it.

Man I was really looking forward to this. Now I'll have to go learn elsewhere.

As was I. But in the meantime, I've been reading the three books that Steve Blank has recommended in various interviews (citation needed):

I'd still love to know what was planned for the class, but these volumes have been valuable to me.

Wish I was in school looking for an internship.
