Mostly a joke... I've been waiting for the AV1 Apple TV, so now I'm just waiting for AV2 support as Apple TV as well now.

My 10 year old iPhone 7 can play 1080p AV1 video in software for more than 200 minutes with VLC. The iPhone 7 was released a year and a half before AV1 was.

So I think it's a safe bet the current Apple TV devices are capable of playing AV1 video in software. There's a VLC release for Apple TV:

https://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-appletv.html

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/vlc-media-player/id650377962?p...

Not especially relevant, as the obvious use of AV1 on the AppleTV is streaming, and the OS frameworks don't request AV1 without hardware decoding. Services which provide their own video decoding (are there any?) don't seem interested providing their own software decoder for the ATV, despite the bandwidth savings.

Six years ago Apple TV added support for playing 4K YouTube video:

https://9to5mac.com/2020/06/22/tvos-14-brings-support-for-st...

YouTube's 4K videos are only available in VP9 and AV1.

So the YouTube app on tvOS has supported at least VP9 for six years and I wouldn't be surprised if it supports AV1 today.

Apple A17 Pro / A18 include AV1 hardware decode.

The latest Apple TV is on the A15:

There may be a new Apple TV released this year.

The evergreen prediction in the Apple TV world :p. IIRC, Mark Gruman initially predicted the next model would be out H1 of 2024

Outside the apple ecosystem, AV1 is supported nearly everywhere.

They’ve had hardware decoding since M3 and equivalent A cpus. So I’d say it’s pretty well supported.

It works even without hardware decode. I noticed youtube is using AV1 on my M1.

This is a real shame and I hope the original owners get it back... but that ai slop song is actually a banger

Right? I grabbed it! Noticed the text says they're willing to host the original content and they'll pay for it?

I will absolutely host one of these servers.. I used to be the admin of Sphereservers 15+ years ago and I've lost all of my scripts, and world files... and graphics.

But I would love to play some old school UO again with people

First mention of Sphere server I have seen in the wild in quite some time. I too had a lot of custom scripts for my instance that I have lost. Sphere server is what finally got me to learn how to script.

Quick question: even if this is/was true, do you think isolating him is the correct response? or maybe engaging and taking some of the pressure off him might actually help.

People love to bully people who slip up... dudes a hot mess but I think he needs community more than being openly attacked.

In my honest opinion, I think the correct response is to stop using anything that dansup makes until he realizes he has to give up some of the control, or the project stops being developed.

While it's nice if people want to help take some pressure off, it only works if the main developer (dansup in this case) is willing to accept that help. And based off the link I gave, and some of the comments here, it doesn't look like dansup is willing to accept help.

This project would love some additional support. If you're a developer who is interested in building this... please get in touch with them, the team is VERY small so you can do some good by just supporting them.

No disrespect to the project, but it is a bit hard to find motivation to contribute to something that will most likely end up being used by like 100 people who'll all just post videos about how they're better than Tiktok users

This looks like a shallow dismissal to me.

Saw this comment about developer hostility first, is there a response or critique out there?

why are Landlords like this?

Parties don’t maximize profit. No fun is an externality of short-term rental apps.

yeah, but you do have to think about parties that get out of hand

"this is why we can't have nice things," because of that small %

Isn't there a legitimate problem with people renting AirB&Bs to specifically to throw wild parties, so they don't have to give a shit about the neighbors?

I mean, having your neighbor's place all the sudden turn into an unauthorized hotel is annoying enough, but it's be even worse if the hotel guests are also throwing parties. It seems like this devices is actually a conscientious way to try to limit those negative externalities.

Tail risk, basically. Amplified by cognitive biases that make horror stories more salient.

Linkedin is leaking?

?

Linkedin is infamous for "what doing something unrelated taught me about B2B sales" or similar kinds of slop.

ah, yeah.
