I reported this and several other issues with public pages almost six years ago. Some of them were fixed after many years - but they're very slow to handle it. I never received any bug bounty or anything.

This is likely because the blog is AI generated and keys off this point from Karpathy: "As a preview, by the end of the script our model will generate (“hallucinate”!) new, plausible-sounding names.", so the LLM just repackaged that into something that is obviously wrong, which is kind of ironic.

This is a fake detector that just has frontend logic for mocking realistic data, you can easily see it in the source code.

You are confusing backwards and forwards compatibility. Those sites may have added features that your iPad does not support, which is why it broke, if they have not added those, it might still work.

However JS is not 100% backwards compatible either, it is in many cases, largely backwards compatible, but there are rare cases of bug fixes, or deprecated APIs that might be removed and break old code, but this is not even JS itself, it's more like web/engine standards.
