For longest time I used Samsung Galaxy with CyanogenMod, while it was usable. It was pretty much a stretch. I'm also guessing using that old ass phone for so long is one of the huge factors why smartphone isn't a big part of my life (as it seems to be for most of people of my age). Since my phone was so slow and barely worked I always opted for other means of communication and face-to-face socialising.

10 years is pretty long time. Like think about still using first generation iPhone

So this is for people who don't know how to use aliases (bash or git)?

Git Town started out as Git aliases written in Bash. Version 3 was many hundred lines of Bash, pushing it beyond what Bash was designed for. At some point it got ridiculous, and we got requests for Windows support, as well as better integration with the Github API. Hence the rewrite in Go.

I still don't see the killer feature here. It just throws around ton of commands, most of which are completely unnecessary.

They had to write thousand lines of code in Go instead of these aliases. Startup aura!

Chromebooks are great for most people, I even used one in college, but I did "side load" Ubuntu with Crouton for programming.

>security-focused Linux distributions

>Kali

I don't even know where to begin with this one...

Kali definitely is not "security focused", it JUST a pile of scripts added on top of flavour of the month Debian. At least in Backtrack days it tried to be all secure and invisible and sneaky and shit, but then noobs complained since they couldn't figure how to start X or how to enable network interfaces.

Now it's just bunch of script kiddies running shit they know nothing about and then crying when some version update breaks random dependency they weren't even aware of.

I'm surprised you got downvoted. Kali actually isn't a security focused distribution. It is meant to be an offensive tool that you usually use for pentesting and use in a VM or a live USB.

DONOT use Kali thinking it is a secure (defense) distro. Use Quebes or Tails or heck even Debian with some secure changes, but not Kali.

On our next breaking news: Gun deaths linked to bullets

Well, just incase someone wants to actual PDF: http://www.lysator.liu.se/mit-guide/MITLockGuide.pdf

This should have been the OP link. So much easier to read.

Meh, if you can't even handle a tiny whiteboard situation how are you going to handle any deadline pressure? It's not about knowing the right answer off the top of your head, it's more about how you work and approach the problem.

Sure some bad companies expect you to be able to write something very specific on the spot, but thous are pretty rare imo.

In what way do you think whiteboards are like deadlines? I honestly don't understand this line of thinking.

It's not about "pressure", it's about the fact I'm an introvert and do poorly at composing while speaking. My brain requires time to focus inward to formulate complex thoughts, and interrupting any time I pause narrating doesn't give me that time to think.

I've literally never had it be an issue in my career, because deadlines happen on the order of days to months and in real life conversations it's acceptable to pause talking for 5 minutes. (Heck, in real life, it would be rude to talk the way you do during an interview, because it wouldn't give the other person a chance to share their thoughts about the problem.)

>My brain requires time to focus inward to formulate complex thoughts, and interrupting any time I pause narrating doesn't give me that time to think.

So basically what you are saying is that you are some kind of snowflake that requires it's own room to concentrate and be productive and you can't even think while doodling on a whiteboard.

In my books that counts against you, that doesn't mean you are straight out, but it definitely makes you a liability to some degree.

Not even remotely.

What I said is that I share a trait with about 25% of the population, more in software, where I can't do my best composing if I'm narrating at the same time. By "time", I mean 30-120 seconds without having to speak.

In actual development that doesn't matter: pauses to compose an answer are fine in conversations and most work time is individual anyway (even in open offices).

I do note, however, you didn't actually answer my question: in what way is whiteboarding like real work deadlines?

>in what way is whiteboarding like real work deadlines?

hurdur, what is stress, I dunno. Why is everyone on this site suffering from autism?

I have a degree that says I'm an engineer, so I'll call myself an engineer thank you very much.

I have a degree that says I'm an scientists, do I have to call myself a Software Scientist now? :D

No, but you can call yourself Data Scientist, I hear they make big bucks what with the big data and analysis and stuff.

I heard a Data Scientist is an actuary that works in Silicon Valley. (Though, actuaries are highly regulated.)

If I already have a Mac and I'm invested into the Apple ecosystem things on Windows needs to be 10-100 times better for me to make the switch.

If you are just starting out or you aren't in the Apple's ecosystem (e.g. you don't have Idevices) then Windows might be the place for you. I'd still go with Linux personally, but that's just me. Or if you just need more power, but I'm guessing most people here don't actually NEED that much power
