Im actually a Cambrian explosion of anti-human defenses. Allergens, toxins, whatever kills them and drives them indoors, life will adapt and shepherd. Nature is no virgin goddess ravaged by evil industrial mankind - nature can be hard and fast - almost as if life depends on it.
The problem is also, that solar infrastructure is vulnerable to some of the attack vectors of climate change. The torrent downpours we see now in the us and in Europe - especially in mountainous regions are endangering the traditional valley cities in the hinterlands- the biggest consumer of solar.
Expected it to at least mention the slant imposed on any road surface so water does not pool. Disappointed to tears and thus salt-water-aquaplaning in all games build upon this.
Nobel Nacre.. The nobelprize is hyper destructive to the scientists receiving it. Its hard to one up from there or return to your field- everyone is bombarding you with high expectations. You can only fail after you received olympic gold. Thus, as scientists inflict change on society, and society hates change, it is like a oyster, trying to protect itself from a grain of sand, wrapping it in Nacre, protecting itself from further change, by encapsulating the changing factor which remains neutered from its ability to do science.
Im so tired by this failed attempts to shore up what is basically a failure at the fundamental level to build a high trust society.
Security, Guards, Locks, Cameras, the mockery of the naive, bumbling fools who easily trust one another - as if that ability to not be capable to form such members of society is something to be proud about. The endless self upselling "protectors", the shards of glass on the wall, the scams, the con artists, proud in ripping of the "Naive and stupid" all these zero-sum gameplayers, producing nothing and furiously proud of their retardation. A whole industry to support a mountain of dysability. If the culture you grew up in is not capable of forming such a society, you are not part of the west. You can not be and never will be. All the shoring up work named above, even with society enforced norms be damned.
If your presence is a detriment, the answer is to build a society without you. Arcologies, cooperate cities, Amish towns - call it what you want. Place where the "stupid" can be "easily gullible" and cooperate and work. And others where the "real ones" can roam around and rip each other off to their hearts content. A harsh wall in the middle, razor-wire on top - and thats the end of that illusion.
There are sites where you can buy 200 different shape stencils for $100, and most logos are just those with text added.
When I found out years down the track that I paid like $1000 for a “premium experience” to be offered 6 or so stencils like this, I was pretty furious. Luckily, I picked none of them, and made the artist draw it exactly as I later described.
Its a reeling of the lawmakers against reality itself. If you read Jules Verne- you always could find and make dangerous chemicals from natural substances and thus by the power of chemistry - you where suddenly a owner of nitroglycerin and owner of a dangerous "substance".
So, the danger is in pre-emptive policing- aka capability reduction. In its extremes it results in what china does- which is producing dangerous objects on mass (every shop has a lathe that can make a gun) - while constantly looking over each other shoulders to see who might ferment revolution or amok. Same with chemistry. Same with software. The panopticon as patchwork counter measure to accumulating dangerous capabilities.
But it can not go much further. If you have a psychological normal individual that buckles under stress and hand it a photon torpedo- the spaceship goes boom. You need "unrealistic" humans, the angles of star trek to be able to handle that sort of capability. Its a whole group of problems, which started with nuclear power.
Basically, the material science on humans and organizations is lousy - and the stress tests showed that we fall apart under duress.
Which is why california tries to limit it, while at the same time idealizing human nature as benevolent and at the same time driving onwards technologies, which wind up the lethal mouse-trap of capabilities with ever more potent dangers. Which as paradox as it is, is a expression of a inability to deal with reality.
To be honest humans often have no overview over a application either. We navigate up and down the namespace, building the "overview" as we go. Nothing i see what prevents an agent from moving up and down that namespace, writing his assumptions into the codebase and requesting feedback from other agents working on different sets of the file.
"Nothing" prevents it other than the fact that an agent doesn't really have memory and has a pretty limited context, hallucinates information, mistakes metadata with data, and so on.
The path forward is always one that starts from the assumption that it will go wrong in all those different ways, and then builds from there
Everything is a compromise- everything is "structurally" flawed. Who is to say- that the brain itself is not something similar, a labyrinthine city, with domain specific shortlived LLMs "excitements" that wake up other short live LLMs? Where not resolving an excitement builds up a frustration counter until a new agent is born whos sole purpose is to solve this problem?
There should be a chapter in economic books on how entrenched monopoly companies become on the inside, like small states where little companies (called departments) play freemarket for promotion points, the outside forces completely suspended while the endoplasmic reticulum of the monopoly company lasts.
